Jill Caswell
Dr. Jill Caswell is the Biology Team Leader within Almac’s Biocatalysis group. After obtaining a degree in Biochemistry Jill worked in the industry producing recombinant proteins in a variety of host organisms before obtaining a PhD in 2011 through an industrial collaboration with Queen’s University Belfast.
Jill’s career has focussed on recombinant enzyme expression as well as molecular biology techniques that enable enzyme engineering. She joined Almac’s Biocatalysis group in 2012 with 10 years of industry-relevant experience to bring to the biology team, helping to grow the enzyme engineering capabilities.
John McIntosh
For his PhD, John studied in Eric Schmidt’s laboratory at the University of Utah, where he studied the biosynthesis of the cyanobactin family of cyclic peptide natural products.
After finishing graduate school John was a postdoc in Frances Arnold’s laboratory at Caltech where he studied non-natural reactions of cytochrome P450s and other heme proteins.
John have been with Merck’s Small-Molecule Process Research and Development Department since 2015 where he has worked in the Biocatalysis and Protein Engineering groups. He is presently an associate principal scientist.

Karim Beguir is the chief executive officer and co-founder of InstaDeep.
He helps companies come to grips with the latest AI breakthroughs and deploy them to improve efficiency and ROI.
As a graduate of France's Ecole Polytechnique and former program fellow at New York University's Courant Institute, Karim has a passion for teaching and using applied mathematics. He's also a Google developer expert and a mentor at Google for Startups Accelerator, and is a steering committee member of Deep Learning Indaba.
Karim is on a mission to democratize AI and make it accessible to a wide audience.
